About

Prior to studying for a degree in ecology at the University of Stirling, John worked in outdoor and environmental education for 10 years. During this time, he developed an interest in how people have traditionally interacted with their environment, particularly for ensuring their own survival. As a PhD student, also at Stirling, John has continued to focus on how humans choose to use and interact with wild places. John’s PhD project concerns the impact of tourism on Europe’s last wild reindeer (Rangifer tarandus) in a Norwegian national park.
